I develop games and I write. I have a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and journalism. I like writing speculative fiction, horror and literary fiction, sometimes all blended together. You can find elements of my writing in my games, because I consider my games to be stories just that happen to have gameplay.

Ah! Yes, upon watching the videos, it does seem that you ARE playing the latest version. I was sure I'd renamed the project in the System tab, but apparently I didn't. Seeing "1.1" in the title bar alarmed me at first, is all, and I didn't have time last night to watch the videos in full.
In any case, I enjoyed both videos, found them hilarious and informative and appreciate the effort. Looking forward to more!
One thing I do really want to change though is the speed at which the text scrolls in the intro. Your video tells me it's way too fast (though it's on Ace's lowest speed setting), so I may end up doing it with Pictures instead.

Hi NicoB.
I noticed you have started on Legionwood 2! I didn't know until now, but I'm going to watch them immediately. Unfortunately, I'm still recovering from a hard drive crash so it will be a week or two until I can get access to the game from my old computer to address any of the criticism (I know there are still some balancing issues with the classes - I really suck at balancing, so things like this Let's Try are helpful), but I appreciate it nonetheless, and thanks!
By the way, you're narration is sufficiently hilarious and I'm really enjoying it. Quite entertaining.
EDIT: I noticed in the videos that you're playing Beta Build 1.1... This is an extremely outdated version! There are a lot of bugs, bad balancing, general issues and lack of polish etc, that you won't be experiencing if you upgrade to the latest version (2.2).
I guess I assumed you'd download the latest one before you began playing, but it's probably my fault since I didn't let you know an updated version was out. I received a fair bit of feedback since I requested the Let's Try and managed to fix up a lot of issues.
Please don't play this version anymore - it really is a very different game, and I'd feel much better if you gave the updated one a try since I feel it's a lot better, and the balancing, combat system and difficulty is a lot less out of whack, not to mention there's a whole new stat (Threat).
Full changelog for those interested who are following the Let's Try:

Beta Build 2.0 is now playing!
Yes, but only slight ones. The Magus and Cleric classes have slightly less Wisdom and slightly more Defense, the Rogue has slightly more Defense (but less Luck) and non casting classes now have a little more Wisdom.
Critical Hit and Evade rates now receive percentage modifiers based on your Luck and Agility, as well.
And the Threat stat is now fully implemented, with items and equipment that can give you *basic* control over distributing or lowering Threat in battle.
(ie. There's an item that raises Threat by 50%, and a Runecraft that lowers Threat by 20%)
Also, you can now equip two Runecrafts instead of one.

Legionwood 2: Rise of the Eternal's Realm
Hey everyone,
It's come to my attention that the game folder I zipped up for upload was the wrong one, and was missing a lot of the files needed to run the game. Without these files, the game will constantly crash.
If you downloaded this broken version, please re-download, as I'm re-uploading with the correct project folder as I write this.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hmm, I didn't think having the font files were neccesary. Not to worry, I'll upload those and the missing Graphic file (not sure how that's missing, I must have removed it by mistake) in another download.
Beta Build 2.0 is now playing!

Legionwood 2: Rise of the Eternal's Realm
@Aurora_Paradox: The Dryad Sanctuary is an optional area, and the player's free to tackle it when you wish, which is why the enemies there are a little harder than normal. I'm thinking of changing that though, and making all optional areas in the game scale in difficulty to the player's level (mainly so you can put them off until much later and they'll be just as challenging).
If I need some testing, I'll let you know. You might be surprised about the Legionwood 1 character, actually :)
And I must say, I like the battle theme, too. The credit goes to an artist called NemesisTheory from Newgrounds.
@ThePie: I kind of feel like a side view battle system is unnecessary, as implementing one would likely cause incompatibilities with my current battle system, and hence break the flow that I'd like to maintain.
I'd say I'm at ~20% completion at the moment.

I think the person who sent you the email is pulling things from the air. He toke a survey of 122 people and they don't like swear words? Does they mean all 122 of them? That's extremely unlikely. Even if he mean almost all, it's still a very unlikely result unless he surveyed people from a strict religious site or in other ways cherry picked people. Heck, did he really go trough the trouble to properly survey 122 people?
Little children won't play the game if it contains bad words? There's no short supply of, say ten years olds, who won't even bat an eye if they hear/see the words "shit" or "fuck". I don't think ten year olds are that likely to play Legionwood 2 anyway. I can see fourteen years old doing it though, but I doubt many of them will stop playing just because of some occasional bad words. Also, keep in mind that RM games aren't made by companies who are very dependent on maintaining a good PR, they can contain anything. Why the heck are children raised by parents who worry about swear words even downloading RM games in the first place?
Use (or don't use) bad language according to what you feel works best in your game, not according to the wishes of easily offended people.
My thoughts exactly. Comments about this player's integrity aside (as I don't think it's relevant) he's just someone who has accessed something that may not be intended for him, at his own risk, and has been offended by it.
While I certainly didn't intend to imply that he's a moron for not liking it, I must admit I was frustrated that someone who obviously isn't mature enough to play the game (as he didn't understand the context and tone of its language and took only offense from it) approaches me with the attitude of "hey! people think you're a shit developer because you've used langauge! Can you change it because I don't like it?"
I mean, would you write to Stephen King and say "I saw the word cunt in your book which I was reading today and I think you should change it otherwise myself and people with tastes similar to mine won't read it"?
That said, there IS a point where you have to draw a line. I think the meaning of said words is an important factor. I wrote a story for my uni course today (yeah, we get marked on writing stories, it's great) which has a character who is meant to be a racist and who uses racial slurs in dialogue. I was advised to remove the racial slurs and simply IMPLY that he is a racist, which I ended up agreeing with, because it's important to remember that not everyone appreciates art the same way: while I'm sure most would recognise that the slurs are used in context to parody that character, some would simply take it as "oh, the author said here, he's a racist!"
And while I'm certainly not a game company that needs to maintain good PR, I am a writer (when I say "writing" I'm referring to my games as well, since I consider them to be in the same vein as my written works) and furthermore I'm an emerging one, who only has a handful of publications (like just over 10 journal/magazine pubs and only one released actual book) and in this respect, I like to make sure that the work I do put out there is not overtly offensive.

I agree with you. Sometimes (particularly if you're writing something set in a modern environment) swearing can be used effectively to enhance the realism.
An example would be someone saying "he wanted to fuck her" over "he wanted to have sex with her" - the first one is considered more taboo, but it also sounds more realistic in certain contexts.
My main gripe with someone asking me to censor my game is that the "swears" were all justified in the context of what was happening. The protagonist calls someone a "bastard" because they've killed his lover right in front of him etc.
They weren't just in there for no reason, but this person failed to see that.
